AmeriCredit Corp. (NYSE: ACF) announced selection of its primary philanthropic initiatives, or "Signature Events," for 2008: the March of Dimes, Salvation Army and United Way. AmeriCredit’s Canadian team members will support the Salvation Army, United Way, and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
"AmeriCredit has always invested in relationships, and enhancing the communities in which we live and work is an important part of that," said AmeriCredit President and CEO Dan Berce. "Our company supports organizations that provide for many people in need, and we are proud that our employees generously give of their time and resources."
AmeriCredit’s philanthropic initiatives were chosen based on employee interest, breadth of communities and people served, and availability of volunteer opportunities for its team members. The company has proudly supported both the March of Dimes and United Way for 12 consecutive years and Salvation Army for the last seven years in a row. In 2007, AmeriCredit and its employees supported dozens of local and national charities through contributions of time and money.
To encourage employee participation in charitable organizations, AmeriCredit offers team members eight hours of paid time off to volunteer each quarter. The company also contributes to the nonprofit agencies for which its employees volunteer. As part of its "Dollars for Doers" program, AmeriCredit donates $5 for every hour, up to 50 hours per year, that team members spend volunteering outside of work hours.
