MedAssets Supply Chain Systems, a MedAssets company, (Nasdaq: MDAS ) recently received the Practice Greenhealth Champion for Change Award in recognition of its work and commitment to healthcare and the environment. The awards were presented on the first day of CleanMed 2008, a global conference for environmental leaders in healthcare. Specific accomplishments contributing to MedAssets Supply Chain Systems’ recognition include:
* Environmental disclosures pertaining to the latex, mercury, PVC and DEHP content of products that are currently noted within product descriptions in MedAssets’ internet-based supplies contract catalog, CDQuick®.
This information enables hospitals and other patient care providers to choose and use “green” products in patient care and facility management. The internet catalog is available to MedAssets’ customers, and is uploaded with the product information for selecting PVC-free and DEHP-free products and PVC/DEHP-free NICU resource for PICC lines, enteral feeding products, IV products and other NICU products as well as a resource for mercury-free products, green cleaning products and energy star products.
* Incorporated “green” into the 2007 MedAssets Technology and Innovation Forum, an annual event for vendors to showcase new and innovative products to be evaluated by MedAssets’ customer-advisory committee members.
This year, the forum included an environmentally responsible products and services category. Upon receiving the committees’ recommendations, MedAssets contracted with two vendors from the Forum (an additional two suppliers are in negotiation) to provide their products to MedAssets’ customers.
* MedAssets participated in Healthcare Without Harm’s initiative to petition the FDA to require DEHP (di-ethylhexyl phthalate) labeling on medical devices.
MedAssets participated in this initiative and submitted a petition to the FDA requesting a rule or issuance of guidance requiring medical device manufacturers to label medical device products containing PVC (polyvinyl chloride), which may expose patients to DEHP.
“MedAssets Supply Chain Systems is pleased to be recognized as a Practice Greenhealth Champion for Change in 2008, our third consecutive year to receive this distinguished award,” said Mark Miriani, president, MedAssets Supply Chain Systems. “We recognize the importance of providing environmentally sound services and products to hospitals for use in patient care and facility management. MedAssets will continue to develop resources and create practical tools that enable our customers to improve environmental performance for their communities and to deliver greater value to their patients in meeting their expectations with green programs.”
Practice Greenhealth was formed by a merger of two leading organizations – Hospitals for a Healthy Environment and the Green Guide for Health Care – and a new clean energy and energy efficiency program, Healthcare Clean Energy Exchange.
MedAssets partners with healthcare providers to improve their financial strength by implementing integrated spend management and revenue cycle solutions that help control cost, improve margins and cash flow, increase regulatory compliance, and optimize operational efficiency.
