California Collector Earns Small Business of the Year Honors

California State Senator Jim Battin (R-La Quinta) honored ACA International member G.E.T.M., in La Quinta, Calif., earlier this month as the 37th Senate District Small Business of the Year at an awards ceremony in Sacramento, Calif. Battin selected the agency because it represents the true essence of small business ownership in the community. Bette Myers, owner of G.E.T.M., traveled to Sacramento to participate in the awards ceremony.

“The thing I love most about G.E.T.M. is that they were started by a female entrepreneur that was raised here in the desert, has stayed here in the desert, and who chose to establish a business back in the ’60s in what would traditionally be considered an industry dominated by men,” said Battin. “The credit/collections industry is not one that people typically think of off the tops of their head, but without the hard working people at G.E.T.M., many other businesses would have no way of collecting debts owed to them, and would have to just absorb those losses. G.E.T.M. helps hold people accountable, and therefore contributes to the success of all the businesses that contract their services.”

The awards ceremony was sponsored by the California Small Business Association in conjunction with President Pro-Tem Don Perata and Senate Republican Leader Dave Cogdill, as well as California State Assembly Speaker Karen Bass and the Assembly Republican Leader Mike Villines. The event was held at the Sacramento Convention Center.
