Bank of America today announced the re-launch of the BankAmericard, which revolutionized consumer credit nearly 50 years ago. The original BankAmericard credit card, the first nationally accepted bank credit card, changed the landscape of financial opportunity and convenience for consumers. Today’s BankAmericard Rewards( Visa card builds on that heritage of innovation, offering one of the industry’s richest and most flexible rewards programs with no annual fee.
"Customers should expect simplicity, flexibility and unlimited benefits from rewards cards, and that is what we are delivering with the BankAmericard Rewards program," said Ric Struthers, North America Card Services Executive, Bank of America. "No gimmicks — just choice, convenience and more rewards for our customers."
"Our size and scale continue to enable us to create breakthrough products for our customers," added Bruce Hammonds, President, Card Services, Bank of America. "We enjoy a relationship with one out of every two households in the United States, so today, with products like the BankAmericard Rewards card, we can offer unprecedented benefits to more consumers in the country than any other financial institution."
BankAmericard Rewards is the first of several products scheduled to launch in the coming year under the BankAmericard brand. The product is the latest in a series of innovations offered by Bank of America to its customers, including No Fee Mortgage PLUS, $0 online equity trading, Keep the Change, and SiteKey.
The BankAmericard credit card debuted in Fresno, California, nearly five decades ago and quickly became available to consumers across the country. Initially considered a novelty, the bank credit card is recognized as the catalyst for a full-scale financial revolution that provided consumers with access to credit that has fueled economic growth in the U.S. for nearly fifty years. The BankAmericard credit card was created to offer customers convenience and the ability to get an instant personal loan, and was also a benefit to merchants who no longer had the "back-office" resource challenges associated with collecting debts from customers. The card changed the way products are bought and sold in America and around the world. With its re- introduction into the marketplace, the new BankAmericard Rewards card will enable consumers to change their expectations for credit card rewards and services.
